Various other awards went to: Dorival Martins and Dylan McLaughlin, Power Corporation of Canada Graduate Fellowships; Ewa Kulig and Amira Moheb, Doctoral Thesis Completion Awards; Essam Orabi, Irina Schlaifer and Da Re Ko, Concordia University International Tuition Fee Remission Awards, and Paknoosh Pakarian, a Partial Tuition Scholarship Remission for International Students.
Congratulations to those of our undergraduate students who have distinguished themselves in the following ways:
The student with the highest graduating GPA, Brigitte Desharnais, received the Faculty's Chemistry Medal at the June 2011 Convocation.
The Department's Outstanding Merit Award for a Graduating Student was given to Sebastian Murphy (2009-10).
The following students have won Department Awards for Academic Excellence in Chemistry and Biochemistry, respectively:
Year 1:Leinjo Isidore Mengnjo and Kevin Louie (2010-11)
Year 2: Matthew Greenwood and Vincent Grenier (2010-11)
Year 3: Brigitte Desharnais and Carmen Bayly (2010-11)
The Hypercube award, given to the student with highest graduating GPA coupled with a particularly strong performance in computational chemistry, went to Robyn Porterfield (2010-11).
The Lenoir Book Prize, for a student whose performance was outstanding in Organic III and IV, was awarded to Fei Chen (2010-11).
The winners of the Society of Chemical Industry Merit Awards were Matthew Greenwood (Chemistry) and Vincent Grenier (Biochemistry).
The winner of the American Chemical Society Award in Analytical Chemistry was Fei Chen (2010-11).
Adriano Vissa and Fei Chen were awarded scholarships for undergraduate summer research by the Centre for Self-Assembled Chemical Structures (CSACS) (2010-11).
Kabongo Bafu won a Proteo Undergraduate Summer Research Fellowship. (2010-11)
Esam Orabi, working with Prof. Guillaume Lamoureux, has received a graduate scholarship from GEPROM, an FRSQ "Regroupement", namely the "Groupe d'études des protéines membranaires". Note that there was only a single scholarship awarded, so the competition must have been quite stiff - all the more to Esam's credit.
Professor Pat Forgione successfully sponsored the candidacy of his project student, Fei Chen, for a grant to support B.Sc. students wishing to join the research group of a member of the Centre in Green Chemistry and Catalysis (CGCC) for a 4-month period funded by the Scientific Management Committee of the FQRNT (2010-11)
Undergraduate Research Day
Students from the humanities, social sciences and sciences gathered in the atrium of the LB Building and the de Sève Cinema to present research creation projects on Friday, April 1, 2011. Our very own William Chu Kwann received an award for his outstanding oral presentation.

Participants: All Quebec Universities. From Concordia: Amandeep Mann, Harrison Saulnier, Sharona Baidwan, Andrew Nelson-Mendez, Giovanna Huamanni, and Aisha Hussain represented our university at the games.
Brief Description: The biochemgames were two component: athletics and academics. In athletics, all day sporting competition against the other universities in soccer, floor hockey, basketball, volleyball, relay racing, waterpolo, and ultimate dodgeball. As for the academics, jeopardy and other games all related to techniques, naming compounds according to IUPAC, history, naming proteins....etc..biochemistry related.
Outcome of games: Athletics: Concordia brought home SILVER and in Academics: Concordia brought home GOLD!
